Roots has been highlighted in Food & Wine, been on the cover of Edible Magazine, & been featured in the Travel section of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, among other Midwest publications.
Collin loves traveling & is constantly on the quest to expand his culinary flavors & comfort levels. One of his biggest drives is immersing in the unknown & then trying to take that influence with him back to Door County when creating new concepts in all levels of hospitality at Roots. He thrives on using local ingredients & supporting other Door County entrepreneurs & farmers whenever possible.
Why "Roots?"
Collin has extensive family roots & appreciation for Door County. His mother was born on an orchard outside Fish Creek, and his grandparents owned & operated several businesses, including the orchard, the Lull-Abi Motel in Egg Harbor, & Johnny’s Cottage Restaurant in Sister Bay.
So with family roots like this, it is only fitting that when establishing a Door County business in hospitality, grounded in restaurant and lodging, a name like “Roots” just stuck.

Roots Inn & Kitchen, est. 2015
Although Collin has extensive roots in the hospitality industry, he didn’t initially begin a career on this path (minus of course, all the busboy + bartender + server shifts he pulled in high school, college, & law school).
After undergrad at the University of Arizona (Bear Down!), Collin spent several years ski-bumming in Beaver Creek, CO, teaching English abroad in Pusan, South Korea, and backpacking Southeast Asia & Europe. Ultimately, he found his way to Law School at the University of Wisconsin.
From here he began a practice in law, but eventually left that practice pursuing a new opportunity that was more fitting of his lifestyle & past influences. It is here that he & his partner at the time established Roots Inn & Kitchen in the fall of 2015.
Your Roots Experience
Collin holds himself & every aspect of his Roots product to the highest standard in hospitality, all while attempting to channel his self-described “approachable, goofy, & chill energy.”
There really isn’t anything that satisfies him more than relating to his guests through food, travel stories, vibes, comedy, & overall hospitality.
